This is the first module in a series currently being developed for the education, awareness and upliftment of local coastal communities, especially those that are seeking alternative livelihoods.
Many local coastal communities, particularly those previously involved in local or sustenance fishing, are desperately needing to seek alternative livelihoods as the world’s fish stocks dwindle. Many are turning to tourism and associated industries that have the potential to impact negatively on the local environment if not managed properly.
Education and awareness is a first step to ensure sustainability of communities and their environment, followed by the introduction of Best Practice and Good Business Practice depending on the circumstances.
This module consists of a ± 15 minute Video, Course Notes. Powerpoint Presentation and a completion Quiz. It forms the first of a series of the Coastal & Marine Community Training and Awareness project for Sustainable Livelihoods. The course is part-funded by the South African National Lotteries Development Trust Fund amongst others.
