MC~12 - Capture & Handling of Sea Birds

Duration: ± 4 hours | Course Code: MC~12 | Cost From: R 300 ($15) per person

This short 20 minute presentation is a COMET Corporation initiative, to explain how and what to do when finding an injured, sick or oiled sea bird. These birds can potentially be dangerous if not handled correctly.

It is necessary to have the right training, equipment and resources to deal with sea birds that are clearly in need of assistance, and this short course give an idea as to what is required to assist correctly. There is a great deal of personal satisfaction in being able to help these creatures, but on the other hand there is a great deal of damage done by inexperienced, untrained and unskilled well-meaning people.

The course consist of a short Powerpoint Presentation and two short videos that try to show some techniques. Completion of the course means you are more aware than before, but does not qualify you to go out and start rescuing and capturing sea birds - apart from doing more harm than good, there are Laws and Regulations forbidding certain such action!

On completion of the test associated with the course, we will issue you with a Certificate of Completion as evidence that you went through the theory. You still need to join a volunteer group and get Practical Experience.

To watch the video, you need to have downloaded and installed Adobe Flashplayer and Adobe Reader. Click on them to download them free
