This is a short course introducing the Safe Use of Ladders and Stairways. Ladder Safety

Thousands of people get injured on a daily basis through the use and mis-use of ladders and stairways, both in commercial and industrial applications as well as in domestic situation.

The course consists of a Presentation, Course Notes and a Short Video and is completed by passing a Quiz.

There are probably many more unrecorded injuries from the use of Ladders in the domestic areas, where Do-It-Yourself enthusiasts do not take safety as seriously as they should, domestic workers and maintenance crew ignore the safety precautions and there is less accountability if things go wrong. This course is therefore an Awareness Course, aimed to give a broad overview of the hazards associated with the use of Ladders and Stairways in a commercial, industrial or domestic environment.

A Certificate of Completion will be issued to successful candidates.

Anyone Working at Height needs to be familiar with:

  • Different types of Ladders and Stairs
  • Load Limits of Ladders and Stairs
  • Inspection of Ladders and Stairs
  • Proper and safe usage of Ladders and Stairs

 

 

Target Audience

All worker who would use ladders and stairways as either part of their daily function, or who use them even occasionally. This includes in all industries as well as domestic situation, interior and exterior applications

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the Module, Learners should have knowledge and understanding of:

  • The various types of fall hazards that can occur in the work area
  • The different types of Ladders and Stairs
  • The Load Limits of ladders and Stairs
  • Inspection of Ladders and Stairs
  • The proper and safe usage of Ladders and Stairs
  • How to determine if a ladder is safe to use and appropriate for the intended purpose (i.e. load capacity)

Scope & Requirements

  1. Learners must be able to communicate (read and speak) without difficulty in the English language
  2. Learners must be willing and able to conduct further research and/or obtain information using the internet, news and social media
  3. Learners must be willing to communicate their knowledge and understanding of the subject matter to others
