OHS~10 - Personal Fall Arrestors

Most Occupational Health and Safety Regulations requires workers to use a fall protection system where they could fall at least 2 - 3 m (6ft - 10 ft) or where a fall from a lesser height may result in serious injury. Fall Protection

This Module is an introduction to the proper use of personal fall protection equipment. However, do not use this as a substitute for any manufacturer’s instructions specific to the equipment you are using.

It is especially noted that workers must be trained thoroughly in the safe use and limitations of Personal Fall Protection equipment, including safety belts, harnesses, lanyards, and lifelines.

Fall arrest systems do not stop you falling. They protect you after you fall by stopping the fall before you hit the surface below.

Fall protection and arrest equipment includes: Personal Fall Arrest Equipment Safety nets Guardrails or barriers Sometimes, installing safety nets and guardrails or barriers at a work site is not always practical — that is when you may need Personal Fall Protection Equipment

Objectives

The course objectives are:

  • To learn about Fall Arrest Systems
  • Understand the Importance of Personal Fall Arrestors and Lifelines
  • Have an Understanding of the correct Equipment to use when Working at Height
  • Understand the importance of Equipment Inspection

Target Audience

All workers working at height, whether on ladders, mobile aerial platforms, scaffolding or simply on surfaces above the ground

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the Module, learners should have a knowledge and understanding of:

  • Personal Fall Arrest Equipment - what it is, does and it's importance
  • The importance of Inspection of all equipment before use
  • Correct fitting and adjustment of Personal Fall Arrest Equipment
  • Use and care of all equipment, and necessity to be properly trained in the use of the equipment
