TW~005 - Welding Quality Control, Inspection & Testing

Duration: ± 4 weeks | Course Code: TW~005 | Cost From: R 7,500 ($ 400) per person

This course is specifically aimed at Welding Inspectors and Quality Control Personnel, but is also extremely useful for Workshop Supervisors, Managers and Laboratory Technicians.

Understanding of the welding process is essential is one is going to monitor quality and soundness of welds. Inspection and testing is an inherent part of the welding process in any fabrication facility, workshop or site. It is more cost effective to spend time inspecting and testing welds through a structured Quality Control System, than it is to repair defective welds after the event.

These modules also form part of the Welder Training for specific Welding Processes, as it is necessary for quality welders to know and understand the Quality Requirements for weldments, and how they are monitored, controlled and tested.

This course consists of 13 Modules of the following topics and subjects:

                              1. Introduction to Welding
                                1. What is Welding?
                                2. Types of Weld Joint Preparations
                                3. Safety in Welding
                              2. Joint Preparation and Positions
                                1. Weld Joint Preparation
                                2. Welding Positions
                              3. Inspection and Testing
                                1. Simple Welding Metallurgy
                                2. Defects in Welds
                                3. Visual Examination
                                4. Non-destructive Testing
                                5. Destructive Testing
                              4. Quality Control
                                1. Welding Symbols on Drawings
                                2. Pre-Heat and Post Weld Heat Treatment
                                3. Quality Control

These above modules should be followed consecutively, and wherever possible practical examples examined and compared.

Objectives

To train Inspection and Testing personnel in the various aspects of welding, in order ensure they understand what can go wrong, what to look for throughout the process, and what plans can be put in place to minimise defective welding.

Target Audience

Quality Control personnel who are working in the fabrication workshops, on site and/or in the laboratories. Included are Supervisors, Managers and Laboratory Technicians

Learning Outcomes

  • To have a good general knowledge and understanding of the welding process
  • To have a good knowledge and understanding of defects that are found in welds and how to avoid them
  • Be able to carry out suitable visual, non-destructive and destructive testing of welded joints to ensure their integrity and adherence to the requirements
  • ]To be able to make decisions of the integrity of welded joints based on formal inspection and testing results.

Scope & Requirements

Learners need to have access to facilities where a certain amount of Quality Control, Inspection and Testing of welded structures is in place. The course is Theoretical in nature, but there is a distinct advantage in being able to see actual examples, and conduct actual inspections and tests.

It is recommended this course is conducted under the guidance of an Inspector or Training Officer.

A Certificate of Completion will be issued on satisfactory completion of all Modules.

Cost

R 7,500 per person
$ 400 per person for international students (incl. bank charges and exchange rate)
Group discounts available on request

Practical work and assignments are not included and are for the arrangement and cost of the facility where the practical work is being carried out. Learners need access to inspection and testing equipment and facilities in a fabrication environment.

Note

All Material is subject to Copyright. A Certificate of Completion will be sent to those who complete the course.

Duration: ± 4 weeks
